JOYPURHAT, Aug 22, 2026 (BSS) - Train services between the northern region
and other parts of the country resumed after a disruption of around three and
a half hours caused by the breaking of a coil spring and part of a coach body
of the Varendra Express train in Joypurhat today.

The incident occurred around 9.00am when the Rajshahi-bound Varendra Express
Train, which had departed from Chilahati, was passing through the Puranapail
railway crossing area in Joypurhat.

Suddenly, a coil spring and part of the body of a coach broke and dropped
down, leaving the train stuck on the railway track and disrupting rail
communication with the northern region.

Train manager Sanowar Hossain said they quickly detected the problem.

Following the incident, several passenger trains were stranded at different
stations, including Joypurhat, Santahar, Parbatipur and Phulbari, causing
inconvenience to long-distance passengers.

A relief train from Santahar Junction was dispatched to the scene soon after
the incident. The rescue team carried out temporary repairs to the damaged
spring and moved the Varendra Express to Joypurhat Railway Station.

Train services on the Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Panchagarh and Chilahati
routes resumed around 12.30pm, nearly three and a half hours after the
disruption.
