KHULNA, Aug 19, 2026 (BSS) – The Forest Department detained three fishermen for allegedly entering the Sundarbans illegally and catching fish from its rivers and canals in the Satkhira Range of the West Sundarbans.

The detained fishermen were identified as Md Abul Kashem, 45, Mamun Sardar, 30, and Israfil Sardar, 46. All are residents of Koyra upazila in Khulna, according to the forest guards.

A patrol team from the Kolagachhia Patrol Outpost conducted the operation on Tuesday night and detained a fishing boat at a canal near Badurjhuli Mouth on the Kolagachhia River, forest officials said.

During a search, forest guards seized around two and a half maunds of various species of fish, two fishing nets and other equipment.

Confirming the matter, Conservator of Forests (CF) of Khulna Region Imran Ahmed said the fishermen were illegally catching fish in the Sundarbans during the prohibited period, in violation of forest laws.

“A case has been filed against the detained fishermen under the Forest Act,” he said.
