Two killed in Bogura road accident

BOGURA, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - Three people, including a father and his son, were killed and two others injured when a goods-laden truck crashed into another truck that had stopped on a highway to repair a punctured wheel in Bogura this morning.

The accident occurred around 7.30am on the Dhaka-Bogura Highway in Chilimpur area on the flyover in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) in Bogura city.

The deceased were identified as Tapas Sarkar, a resident of Ramchandrapur village in Sherpur upazila and his son Tibro Sarkar. The third victim was truck driver Alamgir, from Birampur in Dinajpur.

According to local residents and Fire Service officials, a truck carrying cattle feed was travelling from Dhaka towards the Hili border in Joypurhat. When it reached the flyover in front of SZMCH, one of its rear tyres burst.

The driver and helpers stopped the truck on the highway and were repairing the tyre when another goods-laden truck, reportedly travelling at high speed from Dhaka, lost control and rammed into it from behind.

Tapas and his son Tibro, who were working for changing the tyre, were crushed and died on the spot. Two others sustained serious injuries.

On receiving the information, a rescue team from the Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and rescued the injured before taking them to SZMCH for treatment. One of the injured later died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Bogura Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Shahjahan Siraj confirmed that three people were killed in the accident and two others were rescued and taken to hospital.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Monzur Morshed said police visited the scene after receiving the report. The bodies have been kept at the SZMCH morgue.

Necessary legal proceedings are underway, he added.
