DINAJPUR, July 30, 2026 (BSS) - Under the government's Annual Development Programme, bicycles, sewing machines and wheelchairs were distributed among 127 underprivileged, meritorious students and financially disadvantaged people in Birganj upazila of the district.
Member of Parliament for Dinajpur-1 (Birganj-Kaharol) Md. Manjurul Islam handed over the assistance among them at a function held last night at the upazila parishad auditorium as the chief guest.
A total of 52 meritorious students received bicycles, 50 underprivileged women were provided with sewing machines and 25 people with disabilities received wheelchairs.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Suma Khatun presided over the event. Officials from various government departments, local public representatives, teachers, distinguished citizens, and beneficiaries were also present.
Speaking at the event, lawmaker Manjurul Islam said the gifts from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the government's development initiatives are playing an important role in reaching marginalized communities across the country.
He urged students to remain dedicated to their studies and encouraged the women who received sewing machines to use them for self-employment and economic empowerment.
