NARSINGDI, July 29, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court in Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi today stopped a child marriage and fined those involved Tk 1 lakh.
The drive was conducted in Pirpur village under Khidirpur Union on Wednesday afternoon after authorities received information about the planned marriage.
Upazila Women Affairs Officer Rehana Akter, in coordination with Monohardi Police Station, went to the spot and prevented the marriage.
According to the mobile court, verification of the bride's birth registration showed that she was 14 years, three months and seven days old. She is also a sixth-grade student at a local school.
As the marriage arrangement violated the Child Marriage Restraint Act, 2017, the persons concerned were fined Tk 1 lakh under the law.
Written undertakings were also obtained from the guardians of both the bride and groom that they would not attempt to arrange the girl's marriage before she reaches the legal age of 18.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Monohardi Md Sajib Mia conducted the mobile court.
