RANGPUR, July 29, 2026 (BSS) - Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) have 
arrested 1,626 people in various cases and recovered huge drugs and stolen 
goods in different operations conducted to maintain law and order in the last 
three months. 
 
RpMP Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud disclosed the information at a meet 
the press conference organised at the conference hall of the Rangpur 
Metropolitan Police headquarters in the city on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
In the beginning of the meet, the RpMP Chief discussed the law and order 
situation in Rangpur city, traffic management, public safety and increasing 
mutual cooperation and trust between police and local citizens and 
journalists. 
 
He said that in the last three months, 316 warranted accused, 282 alleged 
drug dealers, 53 members of the air conditioner copper theft rings, 32 
accused in the women and child abuse case, five accused in the murder cases, 
12 members of banned organizations and 926 more people have been arrested 
from the metropolis.
 
In addition, 10 bags of copper wire, 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, 50 grams 
of heroin, 20-kg of marijuana, a huge amount of phensedyl syrup, Tapentadol 
tablets, morphine injections and various types of drugs were recovered in the 
operations. 
 
"The police operation to stop online and offline gambling is continuing. 
Necessary measures are being taken as soon as information is received in this 
regard," the RpMP Chief said. 
 
Besides, the RpMP's traffic division is working regularly to resolve traffic 
congestion in the city. 
 
In this regard, he sought the cooperation of the city residents and media 
workers. 
 
The RpMP Commissioner said that as professionals, both the police and 
journalists are serving the nation with the same goal of improving the 
people, society and the country, with the aim of building a prosperous 
Bangladesh with peace and tranquility in society.
 
He laid special emphasis on the coordinated role of the police and the mass 
media to further improve the law and order situation in the metropolis and to 
make the current government's zero tolerance stances against drugs a success.
 
"The mutual trust between police and people has been rebuilt and people are 
assisting police in curbing crimes in the metropolis and the role of local 
media towards the direction of fighting against drugs is highly laudable," he 
added.
 
Deputy Commissioners of Police of RpMP Sanatan Chakraborty, Md Mahfuzur 
Rahman and Maruf Ahmed and other senior police officials were present at the 
programme.
