NARSINGDI, July 27, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court conducted by the district administration seized a huge quantity of illegal current nets and ring nets during a drive against their sale, storage and stockpiling at Madhabdi Hat in Narsingdi Sadar upazila.
Three people were detained and fined a total of Tk 71,000 during the operation.
According to the district administration, the special drive was carried out this afternoon following a tip-off.
During the drive, the mobile court found that a large quantity of illegal current nets and ring nets, estimated to be worth between Tk 150 million and Tk 200 million, was being traded openly in the open field of the market.
Sensing the presence of the mobile court, most of the traders fled the scene. However, three sellers and custodians of the illegal nets were detained during the operation. They were later fined a total of Tk 71,000 under the relevant law.
The seized illegal current nets and ring nets were later burned and destroyed at an open space adjacent to Road No. 5 on the Narsingdi–Madaniganj road in the presence of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asma Jahan Sarkar and the Upazila Fisheries Officer.
The district administration said such drives would continue to protect the country's fisheries resources, conserve biodiversity and ensure law and order.
The operation was assisted by the Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Fisheries Office, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Madhabdi Police Station and Battalion Ansar. Upazila Fisheries Officer Raunak Jahan conducted the prosecution in all the cases.
The mobile court was led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md. Khalid Hossain Shimul of the Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner's Office.
