RAJSHAHI, July 24, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi regional competition of the 21st East-West University Astro-Olympiad 2026 was held today at the auditorium of the Arts Building at Rajshahi College.

Bangladesh Astronomical Association and Rajshahi Astronomy Center jointly organized the event with the aim of promoting astronomy practice and building a science-minded generation in Bangladesh.

Students from various schools and colleges in the Rajshahi region participated in the competition. In the exam held in two categories - Junior (14-15 years) and Senior (16-18 years) - participants faced questions on astronomy, space science, and scientific analysis.

A total of 20 participants - 10 from the senior group and 10 from the junior group - were selected from among the participants to take part in the national level.

 After the event, a certificate and prize distribution ceremony was organized for the selected and participating contestants.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of East West University, was the chief guest at the event. 

He emphasized the importance of students' engagement in science, research-oriented thinking, and increasing interest in astronomy.
 
Distinguished guests present included Annaba Kabir Prokriti, Secretary of Rajshahi Astronomy Center, Jasimuddin Arnob, General Secretary of Bangladesh Astronomical Association Dhaka Team, and Md. Hasibul Hasnat Rizvi, Member Secretary of the Regional Organizing Committee of Astro-Olympiad, Rajshahi, among others.
  
Convener of the Olympiad Organizing Committee, Atiqur Rahman Atik, said, "Our goal through the Astro-Olympiad is to create interest in scientific practice among the new generation, to build an inquisitive and innovative generation and a science-minded nation.”
