BGB, RAB seize Indian medicines, sarees, cosmetics in Sylhet

DHAKA, July 23, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in a joint drive with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), seized a large quantity of Indian medicines, sarees and cosmetic products worth over Tk 3.24 crore from a covered van in Sylhet.

According to a BGB press release issued here this noon, the seizure was made during a special drive conducted at Hetimganj area under Golapganj upazila last afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team of Bianibazar Battalion (52 BGB), led by Nayek Md Alamgir Hossain, and a patrol team of RAB-9, Sylhet, led by SI Md Ibrahim, carried out the joint operation at around 2:50 pm.

During the drive, the patrol teams noticed a suspicious covered van and signalled it to stop, the release mentioned.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

The joint team later searched the vehicle and recovered a huge quantity of smuggled Indian goods, including medicines, sarees and cosmetics.

The seized items included 177,630 pieces of various Indian medicines, 100 Indian sarees, 80 pieces of ACNASOFT facewash, 100 bottles of KETODERM shampoo, 29 bottles of GLUSTER serum, 1,290 bottles of CODLI syrup and 497 bottles of BONZIVA syrup.

"The total value of the recovered goods are estimated to be at Tk 32,494,050," the release added.

Legal procedures in connection with the seizure are underway.
