MOULVIBAZAR, June 25, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered three foreign-made pistols, three kilograms of high-powered explosives, 24 detonators and two machetes during a special operation in the border area of Barlekha upazila in the district early today.
According to a statement issued by BGB, the operation was conducted in the area under Barlekha Sadar union based on intelligence information that a consignment of arms and explosives was being smuggled into Bangladesh through the border.
Acting on the information, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ataur Rahman Sujon, Commanding Officer of BGB's Beanibazar Battalion (52 BGB), led a special operation carried out by a team from the BOC Tila Border Outpost (BOP).
At around 3.30 am, the BGB team spotted several suspected smugglers in the area and challenged them. Sensing the presence of law enforcement, the suspects fled into the darkness and dense forest, evading arrest.
Subsequently, BGB personnel conducted an extensive search operation and recovered the cache from the area.
The seized items include three foreign-made pistols, 23 tubes containing three kilograms of Powergel 90 high-powered explosives, 24 detonators, 15 meters of detonator wire, and two machetes.
BGB officials said that necessary legal procedures are currently underway regarding the seizure.
