13 arrested after banned groups stage procession in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, June 6, 2026 (BSS) - Double Mooring Police here have arrested 13 leaders and activists from the banned Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League organizations following a street procession in the city. 

Law enforcement also seized two passenger buses, sticks, cloth and brick chips from the scene.

According to a Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) press release issued Saturday afternoon, the incident took place around 10:30am on Friday near the Islami Bank Hospital in the Barrack Building area under Bandar Police Station. Participants in the procession had allegedly tied white cloth around their heads and gathered with the intent to conspire and commit acts of sabotage against the state and government.

Upon receiving information, a team from the Double Mooring Police Station rushed to the spot, causing the demonstrators to disperse. 

Police recovered two passenger buses, four pieces of white cloth, ten sticks and thirteen brick fragments left behind at the location. 

Following the dispersal, police conducted raids across various areas based on confidential informants, leading to the arrest of the 13 individuals.

The detainees include Halishahar Thana Jubo League President Md. Omar Faruk (44), Double Mooring Thana Chhatra League Joint General Secretary Ahmed Reza (32) and Karnaphuli Thana Jubo League member Md. Irfan (32). The other arrested individuals have been identified as Sakibul Islam (22), Jisshu Das (45), Md. Saiful Alam Rubel (41), Md. Shariful Islam (23), Md. Ibrahim Khalil (33), Mohammad Mintu (45), Jobair Ahmed Nirab (25), Md. Monirul Islam (43), Md. Hannan (43) and Md. Junaidul Alam Tasnup (23).

Police said that the suspects are accused of engaging in anti-state activities and sabotage, and legal proceedings against them are currently underway.
