Man loses both legs after falling from moving train in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, June 6, 2026 (BSS) - A 35-year-old man lost both of his legs this morning after falling from a moving train near the Bonarpara Railway Station in Saghata Upazila of the district.

The victim has been identified as Ripon Miah, son of Dudu Miah, hailing from Daldia village under Gobindaganj Upazila.

According to railway police, the Shantahar-bound Karotoa Express, heading towards Burimari, made a scheduled stop at Bonarpara Railway Station around 11:00am. Due to intense overcrowding, Ripon was unable to board a compartment properly. Finding no other option, he attempted to travel by hanging onto the handles of a compartment door.

As the train approached the station's signal point, Ripon lost his grip and fell onto the tracks, causing both of his legs to be severed from his body.

Railway police quickly rescued him and rushed him to Gaibandha General Hospital. As his condition was critical, doctors later referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Sub-Inspector Ziaur Rahman Zia of the Bonarpara Government Railway Police (GRP) Thana confirmed the details of the incident.
