The arrestees are accused of holding patients and their relatives hostage, demanding additional ambulance fees and forcing them to take specific ambulance services, said a press release issued by the RpMP media cell.
The arrestees are Omed Ali, 26, Rana Mia, 34, Raju Mia, 40, Biplob Mia, 24, Farhad Hossain, 42, Arafat Hossain Apel, 22 and Maruf Hossain, 26.
They hail from different places of Rangpur metropolis and adjoining areas.
The RpMP's Detective Branch conducted the special anti-broker drive to ensure the desired services to patients and service recipients who came to RpMCH.
For a long time, members of this unscrupulous gang had been staying around the hospital, influencing patients and their relatives in various ways and forcing them to take ambulance services at additional fees.
RpMP Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud told local reporters that the arrested people had been financially harming and harassing the public who came to the hospital by holding them hostage.
"The RpMP's Detective Branch (DB) operation will continue against hospital-based brokerage, extortion and any other malpractices that cause public suffering in the humanitarian sector like medical services," he added.
