BARISHAL, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - After days of intense heat, residents of Barishal experienced welcome relief as intermittent and moderate rainfall swept across the region on Thursday morning.

According to the Barishal Meteorological Office, 20.6 millimeters of rainfall were recorded between 6:00 am and 9:00 am. The rain, accompanied by gusty winds, continued intermittently throughout the day, becoming moderate again at noon.

The sudden change in weather followed a stormy night on Wednesday, marked by strong winds and rainfall. While the showers brought comfort from the recent heat wave, they also caused disruptions to daily life.

Commuters faced difficulties as a shortage of vehicles was reported on the roads due to the drizzle. Many passengers said that rickshaw, auto-rickshaw, and CNG drivers were charging higher fares than usual.

Pranab Kumar Roy, Senior Observer at the Barishal Meteorological Office, said such sudden spells of rain are typical during the Kalbaisakhi season. He added that there is a possibility of more light rainfall in the coming days.

Meanwhile, due to gusty winds, river ports in Barishal have been advised to display cautionary signal number 2.
