GAIBANDHA, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - A weeklong National Science and Technology Fair-2026 began on the premises of Sadar Upazila Parishad in the district town on Wednesday, drawing enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and visitors.
The fair has been organised by the upazila administration with the theme "Science and technology in building an innovation-based Bangladesh".
The event aims to promote the importance of scientific applications in daily life and showcase activities, initiatives and achievements in science for the welfare of people. It also seeks to encourage scientifically minded citizens and popularise science and technology among the public.
A discussion meeting was held in the afternoon at the Upazila Parishad hall room with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Lailatul Hossain in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman Mollah attended the programme as the chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) AKM Hedayetul Islam was present as special guest.
Addressing the function, the DC said science has significantly contributed to the development of society and the nation, expressing hope that the fair would help build a scientifically enlightened generation.
He urged all to support young innovators so they can develop creative projects and conduct research to contribute to national development.
After the discussion, the DC visited different stalls at the fair and exchanged views with participants about their projects.
More than 30 educational institutions, including high schools and colleges from the upazila, are taking part in the fair.
Earlier, the DC formally inaugurated the event by cutting a ribbon and releasing balloons.
A large number of visitors, including children, were seen thronging the fairgrounds in a festive atmosphere.
