RAJSHAHI, April 8, 2026 (BSS) - A new dimension has been added to maternity
care at the Christian Mission Hospital in Rajshahi (CMHR).
Alongside physical preparation, awareness is now being raised about mental
readiness for pregnancy among expectant and prospective mothers.
In this regard, a seminar on 'psychosomatic' treatment for pregnant women was
held on Wednesday.
The seminar, held at Grand River View Hotel, was presided over by Senior
Consultant (Anesthesia) Dr Sujit Kumar Bhadra.
The Chief Guest was CMHR Chief Executive Officer Pradip Chand Mondal. Special
Guest was Dr B K Dam, Bone and Joint Specialist Orthopedic Surgeon (CMHR).
The program was moderated by Saima Khatun Bithi, and the keynote speaker was
psychologist Bipasha Ghosh.
Speaking at the event, she said, "Both before and after childbirth, it is
very important for mothers to prepare physically and mentally."
"Physical preparation alone does not ensure good outcomes; mental preparation
is equally essential. Now is the time to understand how proper preparation
can ensure the well-being of both mother and child," she added.
She further added, "For the first time in Bangladesh, the Christian Mission
Hospital in Rajshahi has introduced counselling services for pregnant women.
This functions as a form of psychological treatment, and I personally provide
this service."
It is available both online and offline. Through a structured treatment plan,
the service is offered to women preparing for pregnancy, pregnant mothers,
and new mothers. This helps mothers protect themselves from various forms of
mental stress.
