THAKURGAON, April 8, 2026 (BSS) - The distribution of "Special Agricultural Fuel Cards" among farmers has officially begun in Thakurgaon, aiming to ensure uninterrupted agricultural activities amid concerns over fuel availability.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khairul Islam inaugurated the programme as the chief guest this afternoon in front of the upazila Agriculture Officer's office.
Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Nasirul Alam, Agriculture Extension Officer Abu Abdullah Al Mujahid, and local union agriculture officials were present, among others, at the event.
Speaking at the event, Agriculture Officer Nasirul Alam said the initiative was taken by the government to counter panic caused by rumors of a fuel shortage and to support farmers during the farming season. He said that farmers will be able to purchase diesel at government-fixed prices from any authorized fuel station using the card.
Addressing the programme, UNO Khairul Islam emphasized proper use of the cards, stating that while farmers are entitled to collect the fuel they need, any attempt to resell it would be considered a criminal offense.
The initiative is expected to provide relief to farmers and help sustain agricultural production in the region.
