Tight security measures in Ctg ahead of Pahela Boishakh

CHATTOGRAM, April 7, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has issued important guidelines for Bangla New Year 1433 to safeguard public safety and maintain law and order by enhancing security measures for Pahela Boishakh.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and district police have taken additional precautions.  

Meanwhile, CMP conducted a security coordination meeting at the CMP Headquarters Conference Room to oversee the overall law and order situation during the upcoming Pohela Boishakh celebration on April 14.

The meeting was chaired by CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, who emphasized the significance of Bangla New Year as a universal festival for Bengalis. The CMP has taken extensive measures to ensure a safe and smooth celebration for city residents. Cooperation and coordination among concerned agencies and citizens are essential for a successful event.

Key topics discussed during the meeting included enhancing overall security, managing traffic, providing emergency services, conducting coordinated patrols, crowd control, and increasing surveillance at key locations during the Pohela Boishakh celebration. Guidelines have been issued to ensure a safe and organized festival in collaboration with all relevant agencies.

Authorities have decided to deploy 3,850 police personnel to ensure the smooth celebration of Pahela Boishakh in the city and district.
 
According to CMP sources, 2,650 police personnel will be stationed at 92 points and 32 check posts will be set up in strategic locations in the city for security measures.
 
RAB will also deploy over 350 personnel in Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Feni, and Cumilla cities to maintain law and order, as reported by RAB media wing sources.
 
Chattogram district police will have over 1,800 police personnel on duty at key locations, including upazila headquarters, during Pahela Boishakh, police officials confirmed.
 
Special security arrangements will be made at major Boishakhi Mela celebration venues such as DC Hill, CRB area, and Patenga sea beach, as stated by the CMP Commissioner.

Besides, different tourist spots and amusement parks including Foy's Lake, Swadhinata Park, Parky Sea Beach, Chattogram University campus and Sitakunda Eco Park will be brought under the security net, the sources added.

CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) and Additional In-charge (Administration and Finance) Wahidul Haque Chowdhury, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed, Deputy Police Commissioner (Sadar) Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, and other senior officers and stakeholders attended the meeting.
