RAJSHAHI, April 7, 2026 (BSS) - A man sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case in Barisal and living in disguise for 20 years has been arrested in Rajshahi by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). 

The arrested individual was identified as Md. Khalil, a resident of Baraikandi Guthia village in Uzirpur upazila of Barisal, RAB said in a press release this morning. 

Khalil, a life-term convict in a rape case filed with Uzirpur Police Station, had adopted a false identity and been living in the Rajpara Police Station area of Rajshahi city to evade his prison sentence. 

He was apprehended during a raid in Rajpara at around 6:30pm on Monday. During initial interrogation, Khalil admitted that he had been absconding to avoid serving his sentence. 

The arrestee was handed over to Rajpara Police Station for further legal proceedings.
