CHANDPUR, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - Two children drowned while bathing in a pond at Faridganj upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Yasin (8), and Russell (6), two brothers and sons of Abul Bashar of Kutubpur village under Rupsa Uttar union in the upazila.

The incident occurred in Kutubpur village of Rupsa Uttar union in Faridganj upazila.

Acting chairman of Rupsa Uttar Union Parishad Zahirul Islam said the two children were students of a local Hafezia madrasa. Like any other day, they returned home from the madrasa at noon and went to the pond to bathe. At that time, their mother was busy with household chores.

When the children did not return, family members began searching and later found them floating in the pond. They were rescued and taken to Faridganj upazila Health Complex in critical condition, where the doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridganj Police Station Mohammad Helal Uddin confirmed the incident.
