RAJSHAHI, March 25, 2026 (BSS): Thousands of holidaymakers have thronged various recreational spots in the district during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, with the Padma River char in Godagari and amusement parks emerging as major attractions.
A festive atmosphere has been prevailing at these venues as people from all walks of life, particularly youths and children in colourful attire, gather to celebrate the occasion with family and friends.
The Padma River char (sandbar) in Godagari has drawn large crowds, offering a refreshing natural setting for visitors. The presence of children and adolescents has added vibrancy to the riverside, turning the area into a lively social gathering point for locals.
Another key attraction point Safina Park also witnessed a huge influx of visitors on the second and third days of Eid. From morning till afternoon, long queues were seen at the ticket counters as visitors waited to enter the park and enjoy its attractions.
Shariful Islam, Operations Director of Safina Park, said all staff leave had been cancelled to ensure visitors' safety and smooth management during Eid. However, the turnout exceeded expectations.
Despite inclement weather on Eid day, around 10,000 visitors came to the park. The number rose sharply to nearly 50,000 on the following day, while about 25,000 people visited on the third day.
Meanwhile, the receding waters of the Padma have exposed a vast char in the Godagari area, which has quickly turned into a popular recreational destination during the holidays. From afternoon to evening, the riverbank wears a festive look.
Visitors cross the sandy stretch to reach the river, where they enjoy boat rides, take photographs and spend time with their families amid the cool breeze and scenic surroundings.
On-site observations show that the expansive char offers a unique natural landscape, attracting nature lovers. Many visitors have likened it to a "mini Cox's Bazar" or "Kuakata" due to its sandy terrain and open horizon.
Local resident Shamsuzzaman Sojol said that although the Padma has lost its turbulent form, the newly emerged char has created a new space for recreation.
Despite adverse weather, large crowds gathered along several kilometres of the riverbank, from in front of Godagari Model Police Station to Railway Bazaar, enjoying various activities including boating, photography and leisure time on the sand.
Niloy, a visitor, said the char has become a new attraction for locals. "We enjoyed a boat ride and spent time in the river. It was a wonderful experience," he added.
Ahmed Shakil Hasmi, a teacher who returned home for the Eid holidays, said the serene environment of the riverside offers a welcome escape from city life.
The newly emerged char has opened up fresh prospects for tourism in Godagari, drawing thousands of visitors daily during the Eid holidays. Although it may submerge again during the monsoon, it has, for now, become a major attraction for recreation seekers.
