Azharul calls for social movement to curb drugs

RANGPUR, March 7, 2026 (BSS) - ATM Azharul Islam, Member of Parliament from 

Rangpur-2 (Badarganj-Taraganj) constituency, today called for building an effective social movement against drugs to protect the youth.

"Drugs are destroying our children. We must be aware of this for the bright future of our new generation and the nation," he said.

Azharul Islam, also Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, made the remarks while addressing an iftar mahfil organized by the Badarganj upazila unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Government College Auditorium in Badarganj upazila on Friday afternoon as the chief guest.

He said, "Almighty Allah has given us the holy month of Ramadan to train ourselves in piety and patience through fasting and introduced a zakat-based economy so that the joy of Eid can be shared with everyone, including the poor."

Urging people to follow the lessons of Ramadan, he said society must refrain from injustice and work together to establish peace.

"You have elected me as your MP and I express my gratitude. Whether someone voted for me or not, I am the MP of all and I will stand by anyone in legitimate work for the welfare of the people, insha'Allah," he added.

He also called for handing over those who extort money in the area to the law.
Among others, Jamaat-e-Islami Badarganj Upazila Nayeb-e-Amir Shah Muhammad Rustam, Secretary Moulana Minhajul Islam, Badarganj Upazila President of the Workers' Welfare Federation Moulana Mohammad Shahanur Islam, Upazila Adarsha Teachers Federation President Moulana Abdur Razzak, Ulama Division President Moulana Fakhrul Islam and Upazila Youth Division President Vice-principal Masud Hasan Rana spoke on the occasion.
