KHULNA, Feb 28, 2026 (BSS) – Former lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency and ex-president of Khulna city unit BNP Nazrul Islam Manju will assume charge as Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) tomorrow (Sunday).

On his first day in office, he is scheduled to hold a views-exchange meeting with city stakeholders and political leaders to seek their opinions before initiating development activities, KCC sources said.

Talking to BSS, Nazrul Islam Manju said infrastructure development, proper waste management, and removal of water logging, road improvement and ensuring citizen services would be treated as key challenges during his tenure. 

“I want to carry out development activities with the participation of city dwellers,” he added.

KCC sources said preparations have been taken to make the joining ceremony participatory and well-organized. Around 500 guests have been invited to attend the programme.

The invited guests include lawmakers from six constituencies of Khulna district, vice-chancellors of universities, leaders of different political parties, heads of government offices, principals of educational institutions, senior officials of service-providing agencies, as well as representatives of doctors, teachers, lawyers and journalists’ bodies. Urban planners, NGO representatives, environmental activists and leaders of various civic organisation have also been invited. Representatives of rickshaw pullers, easy-bike drivers and workers groups have been included in the guest list.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed said the outgoing and incoming administrators’ fixed Sunday noon for the formal handover of responsibilities after mutual discussion. 

All necessary formalities have already been completed, he added.

KCC Administrative Officer Molla Maruf Rashid said, the programme will begin at 2.15 pm at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium and GIZ conference room on the third floor of the Nagar Bhaban. 

An LED display has been installed on the ground floor to facilitate participation of stakeholders and political leaders. The newly appointed administrator will first exchange greetings with them before joining the formal ceremony upstairs.
The government appointed Nazrul Islam Manju as KCC Administrator on February 23. 

He submitted his joining letter to the Local Government Minister at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
