BARGUNA, Jan 17, 2026 (BSS) - Paddy and sunflower seeds were distributed among marginal farmers in Barguna today under an initiative of the BRAC Microfinance Programme to boost agricultural production.

The distribution programme was held at the BRAC office in Barguna Sadar at 11:00 am. Under the initiative, 110 farmers each received one kilogram of paddy seeds, while 80 farmers were given one kilogram of sunflower seeds each. In total, 190 marginal farmers benefited from the programme.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Sifat Bin Sadiq attended the programme as the chief guest. Regional Manager (Claims) Mahmudul Hasan presided over the event, while BRAC District Co-Regional Manager (Claims) and Coordinator Maruf Parvez were also present.

According to BRAC office sources, marginal farmers from different areas of the district are being identified under the BRAC Microfinance Programme and provided with support in phases.

As part of this ongoing effort, paddy seeds have already been distributed among 1,000 farmers and sunflower seeds among 600 farmers across the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the UNO said such initiatives inspire marginal farmers to dream of a better future. He said that the proper use of improved seeds would not only increase agricultural production but also help improve the financial condition of farmers.
