CHATTOGRAM, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) - Speakers at an election awareness programme today emphasized raising mass awareness alongside active participation of the general public in the election process to ensure meaningful democratic outcomes.
SUJAN, a national civic platform, and Youth Ending Hunger (YEH) jointly organized the sensitization programme titled "Election Olympiad" at Chattogram Government College campus this morning.
Eminent economist and SUJAN district unit president Prof Sekandar Khan attended the programme as chief guest, while Additional Regional Election Officer Shakawat Hossain was present as special guest. YEH National Coordinator Sadib Bin Yusuf presided over the function.
SUJAN district secretary Noman Ullah Bahar, environmentalist Uttam Kumar Acharya, YEH Chattogram regional coordinator Towhidul Islam and district coordinator Nowrin Tasnia Khan Maisha spoke at the function, moderated by Syed Nasir Uddin.
Addressing the function, Prof Sekandar Khan said dissemination of election-related information and proper knowledge are key to a quality and meaningful election. "People can exercise their voting rights properly and cast votes judiciously if they have necessary information on electioneering and contesting candidates," he said.
Terming the upcoming election a great opportunity to consolidate democracy and national stability, he added that greater participation of the young generation will help strengthen the nation's democratic process.
"Election is not merely a process to cast a vote; it reflects people's right and responsibility to elect qualified leaders and accelerate national progress. Young voters must play an effective role in shaping the nation's future," he said.
Organizers said around 300 students participated in the Election Olympiad.
