BRTA distributes Tk 1.03cr to 25 road accident victims' families in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) today distributed grant cheques worth Tk 1.03 crore among 25 families of people killed or injured in road accidents in Rangpur as part of its rehabilitation and assistance programme.

Additional District Magistrate Christopher Himel Richil distributed the cheques as the chief guest at a function held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.

BRTA Rangpur Assistant Director Engineer Md Shafiqul Alam Sarkar and leaders of the Rangpur District Road Transport Association and the District Bus Owners' Association were present at the event.

The grant distribution programme is being implemented in phases under BRTA's supervision for families affected by road accidents across different districts and divisions of the country.

Under the programme, each family of a deceased victim receives Tk 5 lakh, while each injured victim receives Tk 3 lakh in financial assistance.

As part of the initiative, 25 beneficiaries from families of deceased and injured road accident victims in Rangpur received the grant cheques.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said the BRTA's financial assistance to families affected by road accidents is an important humanitarian initiative.

He also stressed the need to comply with traffic laws, drive responsibly, and raise public awareness to help prevent road accidents and ensure road safety.
