JHENAIDAH, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) - A motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured when a speeding bus rammed a motorcycle and a rickshaw-van at Badamtala area on the Jhenaidah-Magura road under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mukter Hossain, 40, a village doctor. He was a son of Sheikh Alibardi Sheikh, resident of Lakshmidia village under Shailkupa upazila of the district.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Mukter Hossain was returning to his village from Jhenaidah town on a motorcycle along with his wife's elder sister. When they reached the Badamtala area, a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction lost control and hit the motorcycle and a rickshaw-van.
Mukter Hossain, his co-rider and another passenger of the van were injured in the collision.
Locals rescued them and rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared Mukter Hossain dead.
Emergency department physician of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital Farzana Yasmin said the motorcyclist had died before reaching the hospital. The two injured persons were admitted to the hospital and their condition was stated to be critical.
Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Arappur Highway Police Station Mrityunjoy Biswas said the bus was moving at excessive speed and lost control before hitting the motorcycle and the van. The bus was seized following the incident.
The body of the deceased has been kept at the morgue of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.
After completion of legal formalities, the body will be handed over to the family, the police officer added.
