KHULNA, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - Police have recovered the body of an unidentified young man from the Bhairab River in Khulna this afternoon. 

Earlier, at about 12:30 pm, locals noticed the floating body between two lighter vessels-- MV Tawshif Ayman-2 and MV Crown-3-- and informed police.

According to local sources, a helmsman named Milon from the vessel MV Tawshif spotted the body floating between the two vessels while going to collect water from the river for bathing. With the help of locals, he informed Khulna Police about the matter.

Being informed the river police rushed to the spot and recovered the floating body from the city's No- 6 Ghat area around 3:30 pm, said Babul Akter, officer-in-charge (OC) of the River Police Headquarters. 

There were visible injury marks on the back of the victim's head, he added.

Police said legal procedures are underway to identify the deceased and determine the exact cause of death, the OC further said.
