BOGURA, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - The Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) has organized a two-day training workshop on 'Election Journalism' for journalists working in Bogura.

The workshop began today (January 9) and will conclude tomorrow (January 10) at the Rochas Motel Auditorium in the town. The sessions are being held from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day.

PIB Director General and eminent journalist Faruk Wasif attended the inaugural session as the chief guest.

In his address, he paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the July Uprising and emphasized the importance of safeguarding journalistic independence in the country.

"Our main goal is to ensure the professional independence of journalists in the new Bangladesh that we have achieved through the blood of the martyrs of the July Revolution," he said.

Criticizing the previous regime, Faruk Wasif said people were deprived of their voting rights during the period of fascist rule.

Following that dark chapter, creating an environment for free, fair, and impartial elections is essential, and the media has a crucial role to play in this process, he stressed.

He also provided guidance on maintaining objectivity and professional ethics while covering elections.

Md. Masud Hossain, additional district magistrate and additional deputy commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management), attended the programme as a special guest.

A total of 50 journalists from various print and electronic media outlets in the district are participating in the training.
