GAIBANDHA, Jan 01, 2026 (BSS) – A seven-day mourning is being observed in the district following the death of BNP Chairperson and Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The district unit of BNP has announced the mourning programme in line with directives from the party’s central leadership.
To mark the observance, the district BNP has chalked out elaborate programmes. The mourning began on Tuesday with the party flag kept at half-mast and black flags hoisted at the district BNP office in the town, said Advocate Quazi Amirul Islam Foku, president of the district unit of Sramik Dal.
Other programmes include recitation from the Holy Quran, wearing black badges, collecting mass signatures, and holding special prayers seeking forgiveness for the departed soul, he added.
Besides, all units and associate organisations of the district BNP will periodically organise programmes such as remembrance meetings and distribution of food among the needy during the mourning period.
After hearing of her death, a pall of gloom descended on leaders and activists of the district BNP and its associate organisations, who paid rich tributes to their beloved leader by wearing black badges, he added.
