MANIKGANJ, Dec 27, 2025 (BSS) - Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes across the Padma River resumed this morning after remaining suspended for several hours due to dense fog that severely reduced visibility, officials of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said.

BIWTC Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager (DGM) Abdus Salam said ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was suspended from 7:15 pm on Friday as dense fog blanketed the river, making navigation risky.

During the suspension, six ferries remained stranded at Paturia Ghat without carrying vehicles or passengers, while three ferries were anchored in the middle of the Padma River, he said.

After the fog eased, ferry operations on the route resumed at 9:40 am today after about 14 hours and 25 minutes. "All ferries are now plying normally with full load," Abdus Salam added.

Movement of all engine-driven boats and launches was also suspended during the period due to poor visibility.

Meanwhile, BIWTC Aricha Ghat Manager Md Abdullah said ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were suspended from 8:20 pm on Friday because of dense fog.

Ferry movement on the route resumed at 10:00 am today after about 13 hours and 40 minutes, he said, adding that all ferries are now operating normally with full load.
