RANGPUR, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - July warriors brought out joyous processions
and distributed sweets in Rangpur after the ICT announced Sheikh Hasina's
death sentence in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the
2024 Mass Uprising.
Students of Begum Rokeya University held a joyous procession and distributed
sweets after Sheikh Hasina's death sentence was issued on Monday afternoon.
Martyr Abu Sayeed's fellow July warriors took out a joyous procession from
the campus and circumambulated Shaheed Abu Sayeed Square in front of the
university and distributed sweets among students and passersby.
They called Sheikh Hasina's death sentence another victory after the 2024
Mass Uprising and shared their joy by hugging each other.
While distributing sweets in front of the main gate of Begum Rokeya
University, Abu Sayeed's co-warrior Shamsur Rahman Sumon said, "The July
Movement took on a different form through the proud sacrifice of martyr Abu
Sayeed Bhai."
"We, the students, are very happy that the fascist Hasina, under the guidance
of whom Abu Sayeed Bhai lost his life, was sentenced to death. This verdict
has created a new history and it is an example for those in power," he said.
In addition, the July warriors of Rangpur celebrated the epoch-making verdict
against fascist Sheikh Hasina by distributing sweets in the Press Club
square, Jahaz Company intersection, Town Hall, July Memorial square and many
other places in the city.
They expressed satisfaction with the verdict and urged the interim government
to bring back Sheikh Hasina from India and implement it quickly.
July fighter Simanto Hossain fed sweets to auto drivers and pedestrians in
the Press Club square.
He said, "Through this verdict, the souls of the martyrs of the July Movement
have found some peace. Our war is successful. Let the fascist Hasina be
brought back to the country quickly and hanged."
In the afternoon, the Jatiya Chhatra Shakti brought out a motorcycle
procession that circled the important roads of Rangpur city demanding that
Sheikh Hasina be brought back to the country as soon as possible and the
verdict be implemented.
This verdict is an example for those in power.
In his reaction after the verdict was announced, Begum Rokeya University
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali said that many people have been
martyred in the movement, and martyr Abu Sayeed is one of them.
Not only are the general students but also the general public of the country
very happy with the verdict in this case centered on martyr Abu Sayeed.
"We will also get a verdict very soon on the Abu Sayeed murder case that is
in the ICT-2. We will be indebted to the blood of Abu Sayeed forever. Whoever
comes to power in the future will work keeping this example in mind," he
said.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 led by Justice Golam Mortuza
Mozumder announced the verdict in this case on Monday afternoon.
The other two members of this tribunal are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and
Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Along with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman
Khan Kamal, who were ousted in the July uprising, the other accused in the
case is former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Of the three accused, Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal are
absconding.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, the only accused arrested in the case, confessed
to his guilt and gave a statement to the tribunal as a royal witness.
The court sentenced Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun to five years in prison.
