RAJBARI, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - As the winter season sets in, the agricultural scene in the district is bustling with a significant increase in the cultivation of winter vegetables.

Farmers, motivated by the promise of good prices, are working tirelessly to ensure a bountiful harvest, leading to a surge in vegetable production.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set an ambitious target for winter vegetable cultivation this year, with 5,100 hectares of land earmarked for crops like cauliflower, cabbage, beans, tomatoes, betel leaves, and more.

In an effort to support local farmers, the department has provided fertilizers and seeds worth over Taka 3.45 crore to 20,000 farmers for the Rabi season. This aid includes a variety of seeds such as mustard, sunflower, Chinese almonds, winter onions, lentils, and khesari, aimed at enhancing production during the winter months.

According to the department, farmers are planting a wide range of vegetables including cauliflower, radish, cabbage, patal, beans, tomatoes, bitter gourd, brinjal, coriander, and gourd.

At present, farmers are busy nurturing their crops, planting seedlings, and taking care of trees, flowers, and fruits as they prepare for the harvest season.

Rawshan Ali, a farmer from Mizan Pur, Urakanda, shared his experience with the ongoing agricultural boom.

"Vegetables bring in bumper prices during the winter season. After the monsoon, demand rises, and as a result, conscious farmers like me focus on vegetable cultivation, ensuring a good profit," he said.

He added that wholesalers buy his vegetables directly from the field at a fair price, which has significantly improved his family’s livelihood.

Similarly, Milon, another local farmer from Jaukura, expressed his satisfaction with vegetable farming, noting that it has been a source of success for his family. "I no longer need to take my vegetables to the market. The wholesalers come to us, and the prices are good. It's been a blessing for my family," he said.

Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Deputy Director of DAE, confirmed that the target of 5,100 hectares of vegetable cultivation is well on track, with 3,100 hectares already completed. He praised the efforts of local farmers and the ongoing support provided by the department, which is vital for ensuring the success of the Rabi season crops.
The ongoing focus on winter vegetable cultivation not only promises higher income for farmers but also contributes to the overall agricultural growth in Rajbari, ensuring that the district remains a key player in the country’s vegetable production during the colder months.
