CHATTOGRAM, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS) - Police recovered 100,000 pieces of yaba pills from a private car during a drive in the city's Mariners Road area last night.
Kotwali Thana Police said they also seized a mobile phone used in drug trading and the private car used for transporting the contraband. The driver managed to flee after abandoning the vehicle when police signaled it to stop.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Karim of Kotwali Police Station said the operation was conducted in front of Omar Ali Market, near the thana's leather warehouse on Mariners Road.
Acting on information that a large consignment of yaba was being smuggled from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka in a private car, a Kotwali police team set up a temporary check post and intercepted the suspicious vehicle. As traffic congestion slowed the area, the driver escaped, leaving the car behind.
During the search, police recovered ten large packets of yaba hidden inside a black travel bag placed near the brake pad, totaling 100,000 pills. The vehicle and a mobile phone used for drug trafficking were seized.
Police said efforts are underway to identify the driver and others involved in the smuggling network.
