KURIGRAM, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS) - Twelve more people have been arrested in the ongoing special anti-sabotage drive conducted by Kurigram district police, bringing the total number of arrests to 51 over the past 72 hours.
According to district police, the arrestees face allegations of involvement in activities of a banned organisation, attempts to create political unrest, participation in terrorist acts and committing torture on people.
The arrestees are--Liton Mia, 30, an active member of the banned Chhatra League in Nageshwari; Niru Mohammad, 55, general secretary of Ward No. 4 Awami League of Kathalbari Union in Kurigram Sadar; Mohammad Ali Jinnah Sujon, 39, former general secretary of Roumari Government Degree College Chhatra League; Imran Hossain, 27, joint convener of Roumari Upazila Chhatra League; Rezaul Karim, 42, member of Upazila Jubo League; and Nur Islam alias Mainas, 52, vice-president of Bhanga Mor Union Awami League in Fulbari.
Others arrested include--Ashraful Haque Mandal, 38, office secretary of Fulbari Upazila Awami Jubo League; Suman Poddar, 37, joint convener of Fulbari Degree College Chhatra League; Gopal Chandra Bosunia, 60, president of Ghorialdanga Union Awami League in Rajarhat; Jahir Uddin, 40, president of Tilai Union Jubo League in Bhurungamari; Ashraful Alam, 42, president of Nageshwari Mujib Sena Oikya League; and Dulal Mia, 45, general secretary of Rayganj Sramik League.
Confirming the information, Media Officer of Kurigram District Police and Additional Superintendent of Police (Ulipur Circle) Md. Ashraful Alam said special drives were conducted over the past three days in different police station areas on allegations of planning sabotage and violent acts by taking advantage of the so-called lockdown.
A total of 51 people have been arrested, he said, adding that such drives will continue to maintain law and order.
