GAIBANDHA, Nov 13, 2025 (BSS) – A two-week-long campaign to identify obstetric fistula patients and suspects ended in Gobindaganj upazila of the district this afternoon.
The upazila health and family planning departments jointly conducted the campaign with technical assistance from the Elimination of Genital Fistula by Capturing, Treating, Rehabilitation and Reintegrating in Bangladesh (FRRei) Project, implemented by LAMB Hospital with support from UNFPA Bangladesh.
During the drive, the volunteers—along with 136 field-level staff from the departments—visited households across 17 unions and one municipality and collected the required information.
In addition, officials from both departments participated in view-exchange meetings on identifying fistula patients and suspects at different locations of the upazila.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Masudar Rahman said the objective of the campaign was to identify fistula patients as well as suspects and bring them under treatment facilities available at medical college hospitals to make Gobindaganj upazila fistula-free in a short time.
Dr Rahman said the suspected cases will be diagnosed without delay, and confirmed patients will be referred to either Rangpur Medical College Hospital or Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for treatment.
