6 commercial establishments fined Tk 1.3 lakh in Consumer Rights Drive in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) -The National Consumer Rights Protection Department in Chattogram city has fined six commercial establishments a total of Taka 1,13,000 during drives conducted under the Khulshi and Karnaphuli police stations.

The fines were imposed for using chemicals in food products, preparing food in unsanitary conditions, and selling expired items.

The department, along with the police, conducted the drive. One of the establishments, New Shahi Bakery in the Wireless area of Khulshi police station, was fined Taka 80,000 for using chemical dyes and unhealthy oil in food production, maintaining an unclean environment, and using expired and harmful ingredients.

A fine of Taka 10,000 was imposed on Phulkoli Sweets Store in the same area for selling expired sweets and violating product packaging rules. Additionally, Cafe Al Makka Hotel in Moizzartek area of Karnaphuli Police Station received a fine of Taka 10,000 for preparing food in an unsanitary environment and using an unauthorized process. Jahangir Foods was fined Taka 3,000 for storing stale sweets, Noor Sweets faced a Taka 7,000 fine for violating product packaging rules, and Bonful Mishtanna Bhandar was fined Taka 3,000 for the same offense. 

The enforcement operation was conducted by Mohammad Faiz Ullah, Deputy Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Chattogram Division, with the participation of Assistant Directors Md. Anisur Rahman, Mahmuda Akhter, and Rana Debnath.
