JASHORE, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man with gold bars worth over Taka 20.54 lakh from Baulia Bazar area in Sadar upazila last night.
The arrested was identified as Shariful Islam, 56, a resident of Kakdanga Dakshin Keragachi village under Kalaroa Police Station in Satkhira district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the battalion conducted a drive in the area around 8:30 pm, arrested Shariful, and recovered two gold bars weighing 118.75 grams after searching his body, said a press release issued by BGB-49 Battalion
BGB-49 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui said that during primary interrogation, the detained Shariful Islam confessed that he was on his way to the Benapole border to smuggle the gold bars to India after collecting them from smugglers in Dhaka's Dholaipar area.
A case has been filed against Shariful, and he has been handed over to Jashore Kotwali Police Station for further legal action, the BGB commander added.
