Coast Guard rescues 42 people in Sundarbans

BAGERHAT, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 42 people from two boats on the Pashur River in the Sundarbans after their engines broke down.

This afternoon, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the information to BSS.

He said that on Wednesday morning, two engine-powered boats carrying passengers returning from the “Ras Purnima Puja and Punyasnan” festival in Dublarchar reached the area near the Herbaria Forest Office on the Pashur River at around 6 pm when their engines failed due to mechanical faults. As a result, the boats began drifting in the river. A passenger later informed the Coast Guard of the situation via mobile phone.

Upon receiving the information, a team from Coast Guard Station Herbaria launched a prompt rescue operation around 7 pm, saving all 42 passengers along with the boats. The rescued passengers are residents of Batiaghata Upazila in Khulna.

After the rescue, the passengers and the boats were safely handed over to Joymonirghol Thoda Jetty.
