Krishna Ras Jatra begins in Kurigram amid festive mood

KURIGRAM, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - A weeklong Sri Krishna Ras Jatra Festival began in a festive and devotional atmosphere at the Sri Sri Radha Govinda Sarbojonin Temple in Gorkamandal area of Phulbari upazila here last night. 

The celebration was inaugurated at 9 pm with the lighting of a sacred lamp by Sourendra Chandra Goswami.

President of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad's Phulbari upazila unit Kartik Chandra Roy attended the inauguration programme as the chief guest.

President of the Ras Jatra Celebration Committee Gouranga Chandra Biswas and its general secretary Tapan Chandra Biswas jointly conducted the event.

Addressing the inaugural Bhagavata discussion, the chief guest Kartik Chandra Roy said, "Ras Jatra brings people together through devotion, culture, and spiritual harmony and reflects our long-standing tradition of unity and peace."

Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Chandra Roy, president of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (Phulbari unit), said, "Such festivals nurture our social values and remind us of the moral teachings of Lord Krishna."

After the discussion, local and guest artists performed bhajans and devotional songs, enchanting the devotees gathered at the temple grounds.

The seven-day event will include Bhagavata recitations, kirtans, maha namyajna, and lila kirtan performances.

Commenting on the security measures, officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station Shawkat Ali Sarkar said, "Law enforcement teams are on duty around the clock to ensure the festival proceeds peacefully in a joyous atmosphere."
