NETROKONA, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS) - A 17-year-old battery-powered rickshaw driver, Yasin Mia, was killed as a bus collided with his rickshaw on the Netrokona-Mohanganj Road this evening.

The accident took place in the Thakurakona area of Netrokona, also injuring several others, including a passenger in the rickshaw and two motorcyclists.

Yasin Mia, a resident of Charpara village in Thakurakona Union of Netrokona Sadar upazila, was the son of Waris Mia.

According to local sources and police, a Sagarika Paribahan bus, travelling from Kolmakanda to Sylhet, had just left the district town of Netrokona to pick up passengers.

When the bus reached the Thakurakona area in Sadar upazila, it collided with a battery-run rickshaw and two motorcycles coming from the opposite direction.

The collision resulted in the immediate death of Yasin Mia. Local residents quickly rushed the injured individuals to the Netrokona Sadar Hospital. The exact number of injured people has not yet been confirmed.

The bus driver and his assistant fled the scene after abandoning their vehicle, fearing worsening circumstances.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Netrokona Model Police Station, Kazi Shahnewaz, said that police were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving information.

A bus belonging to Sagarika Paribahan, which was involved in the accident, has been seized by the authorities.

However, the driver and his assistant are currently on the run. Legal proceedings are underway.
