One dead, BNP candidate injured during election campaign in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS)- One person was shot dead and two others including BNP Chattogram-8 (Chandgaon-Boalkhali) constituency candidate Ershad Ullah were injured  in an attack of miscreants during the election campaign at Bayezid Bostami area of the city this evening.
 
The dead person was identified as Sarwar Hossain Babla, 43.
 
The incident occurred at about 5 pm in the Chaillatoli East Mosque area of Bayezid Bostami thana, said Amirul Islam, DC of CMP (north zone)
It is not yet clear who are responsible for the attack, he said.
 
Police arrived at the scene and managed to bring the situation under control.
 
City BNP member secretary Nazimur Rahman said that Ershad Ullah, convener of Chattogram City BNP, was shot in the leg and has been admitted to a local hospital.
 
Locals said Ershad Ullah was leaving Chalitalli Purba Mosque after offering Maghrib prayers and conducting a public mass rally. At that time two armed miscreants arrived on the spot and shot at Sarwar Hossain Babla killing him on the spot. Ershad Ullah and another person named Shanto, who were nearby received bullet injuries.

After the incident, local leaders and activists rushed the injured Ershad Ullah to a private Evercare Hospital in the city. He is currently in stable condition, doctors said. 

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury strongly condemned the shooting and called for the immediate arrest of the attackers. 

He expressed concern that the incident may be linked to those trying to disrupt the upcoming elections. 
 
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir condemned and expressed deep concern over the incident. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for the attack on Ershad Ullah. He wished early recovery of the BNP candidate. 

On November 3, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced Ershad Ullah as the party's candidate for the Chattogram-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election.
