BARISHAL, Nov 4, 2025 (BSS) - A modern cabin block having 22 luxurious cabins to facilitate patients from the middle and upper income group was inaugurated today at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) here in Barishal.
The hospital's Director Brigadier General Dr. AKM Moshiul Munir formally inaugurated the modernized cabins at 11 am today. At the same time, two newly constructed decorative water fountains were opened on the hospital's front lawn marking another step towards modernization of the hospital.
Presiding over the inaugural ceremony at the hospital's surgery seminar hall, Brigadier General Munir said that government hospitals are not only for low-income patients, but also those serve middle and upper-income groups who often find it difficult to take treatment from private hospitals since those are too costly.
"We are ensuring quality healthcare for all classes of people... As part of this effort, we have introduced modern cabins for patients at affordable rates," he said.
Each of the 22 cabins, equipped with modern facilities, will be available at a rent of only Taka 1,000 per day. The director noted that the cabins are of higher quality than those in many private hospitals.
He also said that various initiatives are being taken to beautify the hospital premises. "Today's inauguration of the water fountains is part of that effort. In the next phase, flower gardens, a lake, and walking pathways will be developed on the two grounds in front of the hospital," he added.
Urging visitors not to bring betel leaf, lime, or coconuts into the hospital, Munir emphasized, "Maintaining cleanliness is everyone's responsibility as these items are major causes of litter."
Vice Principal of the Medical College Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain Bablu said that several initiatives have been taken for overall development of the hospital. "The old medicine building has been converted into an outdoor department while the former main building is being remodeled into an indoor department with an additional 300 beds, which will greatly ease the sufferings of the patients." he said.
The event was conducted by Dr. Md. Mazharul Rezwan Reza, Resident Surgeon and Acting Head of the Emergency and Casualty Department.
Deputy Director Dr. Nazmul Ahsan, Assistant Director (Administration) Dr. Mahamud Hasan, and Assistant Director (Finance and Store) Dr. Abdul Munayem Saad attended the ceremony along with doctors from the surgery, medicine, and gynecology departments, nurses, and members of the print, electronic, and online media.
