10 Business Firms Fined Tk 1.49 Lakh in Khulna division

KHULNA, Nov 4, 2025 (BSS) - The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined 10 business establishments a total of Tk 1.49 lakh for violating consumer rights laws during daylong drives across eight districts under the Khulna division on Monday.

Officials inspected essential commodities including rice, edible oil, LPG, medicines, potatoes, onions, vegetables, chicken and eggs, verified purchase vouchers, and directed traders to sell products at government-fixed prices.

According to the DNCRP Khulna Divisional Office, nine teams conducted the operations simultaneously in eight districts.

In Khulna city, a team led by Divisional Deputy Director Mohammad Selim fined Ahsania Hotel and Restaurant Tk 7,000, while another led by Assistant Director Dinara Zaman fined Apayan Hotel and Restaurant Tk 3,000 for illegal food processing.

In Magura, Assistant Director Md. Sajal Ahmed fined Messrs Shafin Food Tk 7,000, and in Satkhira, Assistant Director Md. Mehedi Hasan Tanvir fined Dream Star Daily Shop Tk 2,000 for improper labeling.

In Jhenaidah, Bhai Bhai Traders was fined Tk 7,000 for not displaying a price list, while in Meherpur, Messrs Jim Enterprise was fined Tk 5,000 for selling illegal products.

In Kushtia, Barsha Sweets and Bismillah Kacchi Village were fined Tk 2,000 and Tk 1,000 respectively for illegal food production. In Bagerhat, Mina Bakery was fined Tk 15,000 for the same offense.

The highest penalty of Tk 1 lakh was imposed in Jashore, where Assistant Director Md. Selimuzzaman fined SohaMoni Food and Beverage for illegal production and misleading consumers through false advertising.

Deputy Director Mohammad Selim told BSS that traders were warned to adhere strictly to government-fixed prices and maintain visible price lists, purchase records, and sales logs.
"The monitoring drives will continue in the interest of protecting consumers," he added.
