BAGERHAT, Nov 4, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard has strengthened security measures for the traditional 'Ras Purnima Puja and Punyasnan' festival at Dublar Char in the Sundarbans to ensure the safety of pilgrims and maintain law and order.
In a press release, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said special patrols are being conducted in coordination with the Forest Department and other law enforcement agencies to prevent wildlife poaching and ensure overall security during the festival.
He said Coast Guard ships, stations and outposts have been put on alert, while a diving team remains ready to respond to any emergency.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq also informed that in recent drives in the Sundarbans, the Coast Guard arrested 42 forest robbers, rescued 48 kidnapped fishermen, and seized a large cache of arms, ammunition, and weapon-making materials.
In separate operations, 24 deer poachers were detained with 720 kilograms of venison and traps.
The Coast Guard urged pilgrims to contact them in case of any emergency during the festival and expressed hope for a smooth and peaceful celebration.
