RANGPUR, Nov 4, 2025 (BSS) - Among the BNP nominated 237 candidates in the initial list, six local leaders will contest under the symbol of 'Sheaf of Paddy' to regain the six parliamentary seats in Rangpur lost four decades ago.
 
BNP leader Md Mokarram Hossain Sujan, a three-time former chairman of Alambiditor union parishad in Gangachara upazila and a former senior member of the Upazila BNP, will contest in Rangpur-1 constituency. 
 
Earlier, BNP-nominated candidate Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mia won this constituency in 1979 after independence. 
 
Later, after his death, his son Shafiqul Gani Swapan was elected as a member of parliament from that seat in the by-election. 
 
While expressing his feeling to local journalists after his candidature was announced, Mokarram Hossain Sujon said BNP is very strong organizationally at the local level. 
 
"If the election is held without any conspiracy and common people get the opportunity to vote, then BNP's victory is 100 percent certain in Rangpur-1 constituency," he said. 
 
Former Member of Parliament Mohammad Ali Sarkar will contest from Rangpur-2 (Badarganj-Taraganj) constituency with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol. 
 
He was elected as a member of parliament from Rangpur-2 constituency under the 'Langol' symbol from the Jatiya Party-led Islami Jatiya Oikko Front in the 2001 elections. 
 
In 2008, he contested the Jatiya Sangsad election from Rangpur-2 constituency as an independent, and subsequently, joined the BNP. 
 
In 1979, BNP candidate Mohammad Ilias won the Rangpur-2 constituency seat. This time, BNP is seeing a ray of hope in this seat. 
 
Convener of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Md Shamsuzzaman Samu will contest the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election in Rangpur-3 (Rangpur Sadar) constituency with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol. 
 
BNP has won this constituency only once in the 1979 Jatiya Sangsad elections. 
 
Advocate Md Rezaul Haque Sarkar Rana became a Member of Parliament here with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol in 1979. 
 
This time, BNP feels its position in this constituency is quite strong. 
 
After his name was announced as the BNP candidate, Shamsuzzaman Samu expressed his feelings to local reporters.
 
He said, "We have started mass contact in different areas to participate in the elections. The party has nominated me after considering all aspects. We are hopeful to win this constituency." 
 
Kawnia Upazila BNP President and industrialist Mohammad Emdadul Haque Bharasha will contest from Rangpur-4 (Kawnia-Pirgachha) constituency. 
 
Local leaders and workers of BNP see a golden opportunity to salvage the lost seat through Emdadul Haque Bharasha. 
 
In 1979, Emdadul Haque Bharasha's father and celebrated industrialist Rahim Uddin Bharasha won this constituency as a BNP candidate. 
 
After his name was announced as the BNP candidate, Emdadul Haque Bharasha expressed his feelings to local journalists.
 
He said that his father Rahim Uddin Bharasha was elected as a Member of Parliament in Rangpur-4 constituency from BNP during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. 
 
"If the next Jatiya Sangsad election is free and fair, this constituency will be restored," he said. 
 
Mithapukur Upazila BNP President Md Golam Rabbani has been announced as the candidate for the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol in Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) constituency.
 
Journalist and freedom fighter Khandaker Golam Mostafa Batul was elected as a Member of Parliament from the BNP in the 1979 elections in Rangpur-5 constituency. 
 
"I strongly hope that this time we will be able to ensure the victory of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol together in this constituency," Golam Rabbani said.
 
Rangpur District BNP convener Md Saiful Islam will contest the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election in Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) seat as the BNP-nominated candidate. He has been campaigning in this seat for a long time. 
 
BNP has won this seat only once. Md Matiar Rahman Chowdhury was elected as a Member of Parliament here in the 1979 elections. 
 
Md Saiful Islam said that BNP is a democratic party. The beauty of democracy is competitive elections. 
 
"If people get the opportunity to vote, I am optimistic about winning this constituency this time," he hoped.
