KHULNA, Nov 3, 2025 (BSS) – A joint investigation have been launched by the law enforcement agencies to investigate the attack on local BNP leader and killing of madrasah teacher Emdadul in Khulna.

“Multiple intelligence agencies, including Khan Jahan Ali Police, RAB, and the Detective Branch (DB), have already launched a joint investigation into the attack on BNP leader Mamun Sheikh and slain Madrasah teacher Emdadul Haque,” Khairul Bashar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Arongghata police station, confirmed today.

One Sunday night, miscreants carried out a bomb and gun attack on a local office of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) near the IT Gate of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), leaving one person dead and another critically injured.

The deceased was identified as Emdadul Haque, 55, a teacher at Maheshwarpasha Buchitla Nurania Hafizia Madrasah.

Mamun Sheikh, 45, organising secretary of the Joghihopole Union BNP and a former UP member, and Mizanur Rahman, an accomplice of Mamun,  sustained bullet injuries and were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) in critical condition.

According to police and local sources, the attackers had targeted BNP leader and former Union Parishad member Mamun Sheikh, who miraculously escaped death after the first bullet missed him and instead struck madrasah teacher Emdadul Haque, killing him instantly.

The incident took place around 9 pm at the BNP office in Jugiapole Union, where Mamun Sheikh, the union BNP’s organising secretary, was sitting with several party men.

Locals said the assailants suddenly opened fire and hurled two bombs, firing at least four rounds before fleeing.

Police suspect that an internal feud between two outlawed extremist groups triggered Sunday night’s gun and bomb attack at the BNP office near the KUET IT gate, leaving one person dead and two others injured.

Police said Mamun Sheikh and another activist, Mizanur Rahman, sustained bullet injuries and were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

He said no case had yet been filed but added that a murder case will soon be lodged, with both RAB and DB investigating all possible motives.

Locals described slain teacher Emdadul Haque as a humble and religious man who had come to the BNP office to collect donations for a religious event.

The body of Emdadul was taken to his native land at Mothbaria upazila after post post-mortem this afternoon.

Meanwhile, local BNP leaders organised a protest rally at Jugiapole on Monday morning, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
