KHULNA, Nov 2, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested two drug peddlers along with contraband medicine, 22 bottles of codeine phosphate-based cough syrup (Win-Codex) and 105 pieces of Yaba tablets in separate drives conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) on Saturday night.
According to a press release issued by KMP's media wing, a DB team, based on a tip-off, conducted a raid around 9:30 pm at a house on Nur Nagar Main Road under Khalishpur Police Station.
During the raid, police recovered 22 bottles of Win-Codex from beneath a bed in the room of tenant Md. Abul Kalam Sardar (35) and arrested on the spot. He is the son of late Amir Ali Sardar of Vangadeola village in Jhalakathi.
Police said the arrested man had long been involved in the illegal purchase and sale of codeine-based cough syrups in the Khulna metropolitan area. A case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed with Khalishpur Police Station in this regard.
In another drive, Khalishpur Police recovered 105 pieces of Yaba tablets and arrested a drug dealer named Joy Kazi alias Jubayer (25), son of Ishaq Kazi of Ratanadia village in Faridpur, from the Khalishpur Housing area. A separate case has also been lodged against him under the Narcotics Control Act.
KMP Assistant Commissioner (Media) Khondoker Hossain Ahmed said the operations were part of ongoing anti-drug drives across the city.
