CUMILLA, Nov 1, 2025 (BSS) - Police have detained 50 people across the district on charges of organizing and participating in a flash procession held by the Awami League in Cumilla city.
Police arrested them during a special operation conducted from Friday night to Saturday noon, police sources confirmed.
According to the Cumilla District Police, the drive was part of a broader initiative to maintain public safety and curb anti-state activities.
Citing statements from the detainees, police said Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League president and former MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar, North District Awami League general secretary Rawshan Ali Master, and several leaders of banned organizations currently living abroad had allegedly sent funds to local associates to organize brief flash processions with the aim of destabilizing the government.
Law enforcement sources claimed that participants were reportedly paid up to Taka 10,000 each to take part in 50-second-long processions.
Police added that many participants traveled from outside areas using microbuses and CNG-run vehicles, while others who had been influenced through social media also joined the activity.
Cumilla DB Police Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdullah confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigation.
“Strict legal action is being taken against those involved in anti-state activities,” he said. “Our main goal is to ensure public safety and prevent chaos.”
The Comilla District Police have stated that similar operations will continue to prevent further such incidents.
