CUMILLA, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS) - Police today arrested 12 leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League on charges of staging a sudden anti-government flash procession in the city.
The detainees were identified as Akram Hossain Oki, 28, Md Sagar, 24, Md Mohiuddin Sumon, 32, Mohammad Russell Hossain, 30, Md Faisal, 28, Maksudur Rahman alias Bablu, 31, Amin Khan Nahid, 30, Tuhin Alam, 28, Kazi Shamsul Alam, 52, Mohammad Mobarak Hossain Rubel, 35, Abdullah Al Hadi, 36 and Golam Kibria Chowdhury, 27.
According to Police, a group of BCL and Jubo League activists brought out a brief flash procession in the Eidgah field area in the morning. The march lasted for only 30 to 40 seconds and covered about the same distance before the participants dispersed.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Mohinul Islam said the activists quickly left the spot in CNG-run auto-rickshaws after chanting anti-government slogans.
"They brought out the procession so suddenly that no one could be detained on the spot. Later, based on CCTV footage and intelligence information, police arrested the BCL and Jubo League members in a special drive," Mohinul Islam said.
They were produced before a court in the afternoon, he added.
The OC confirmed that police patrols have been intensified across the city to ensure law and order.
